Panorama Software Goes Beyond Classic Business Intelligence with Proactive BI

Leading BI Vendor Offers Revolutionary New Model for Business Intelligence

Seattle, WA & Toronto, Ontario – May 9, 2007 – Panorama Software, a global leader in business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced at the Microsoft Business Intelligence Conference in Seattle, Washington, its next big bet in the BI software space through the Company’s flagship solution, Panorama NovaView®.  Panorama is introducing Proactive Business Intelligence (PBI), a new model for the BI industry based on the need for a forward-thinking approach to enhance the enterprise through innovative BI.

Business Intelligence has been an evolving technology and business practice that has significantly impacted the business performance of many large organizations since the 1970s.  Since the creation of BI, many BI companies have invested heavily in research and development to evolve their tools, but over the same years have managed to provide the business with very little innovation. Over the past 12 years there has been an evolution of BI tools and platforms with one focus – to make it easier to produce reports and put them in the hands of the end-user.  However, since BI’s inception in the 1970s, what the end-user got out of its BI investment has not evolved drastically. After evaluating other tools in the market today, Panorama Software noticed end-users still only benefit from the classic BI that has been offered for decades – they receive a report, but are still required to identify insights and make decisions based on the information provided to them.

Panorama Software is challenging classic BI by providing all the classic tools for analytics, reporting, dashboarding and scorecarding, but also taking a quantum leap - as opposed to  its competitors - to ensure its industry-leading tools are better tailored to, and focused on, the end-user.  Panorama’s PBI solutions not only focus on extreme usability, but also on making insights (not strictly reports) come to users. Panorama NovaView® also ties together actions and processes to insights to connect BI directly to structured actions and business processes.

“Proactive Business Intelligence is a new way of looking at BI. As opposed to putting the tools in the center we are putting them in the hands of the end-user. PBI is about providing the end-user the best BI-based solution for his business needs,” said Eynav Azarya, CEO, Panorama Software.  “By putting the user in the center and developing the solutions around him, we have managed to provide the best classic BI solutions in an intuitive front-end suite, but now are evolving to the next phase of amplifying people’s impact.”

“We see many big BI vendors claiming to try reinvent themselves and BI, but in reality they are selling the same old school BI with new names, new brands and new images. Panorama, the company the created the OLAP technology that was acquired by Microsoft, the company that has been the absolute expert in the MDX standard, is taking new roads in innovation. We’re going beyond reports into providing insights, making a metric actionable with a right click, and connecting BI with processes that will make companies run much better and not just be better informed,”  said Oudi Antebi, VP of Marketing and Strategy, Panorama Software. “Through NovaView, Panorama is focused on evolving traditional BI from a set of tools that help users navigate vast amounts of new information, to helping users focus on the truly outstanding and relevant. BI is becoming more about guiding people to the right course of action than simply allowing them to see more and delve deeper into the data.  Moreover, Panorama is the only company with the tools and leadership needed to launch this evolution.”

The new generation of PBI systems enables companies to:

  • Focus on the relevant by delivering users the information they need in formats that they can use. For example, users can get key metrics and KPIs as a simple view inside Outlook or any other office application without having to use specialized BI tools. When using a reporting tool, users can apply business rules and filter the report view instantly to uncover exceptions or specific behaviors without having to sift through vast amounts of data.
  • Take structure actions by tying together BI with processes and workflow to enable end-users to immediately see the available actions associated with a specific insight and launch it from within the BI tool.  For example, when users identify low product inventory, they can trigger a process to order additional inventory in a specific way right from the BI tool. The process integration eliminates the need for unstructured corrective decisions to alter exceptional behavior.
  • Automate the routine by making BI and business process management applications work seamlessly together, processes can be triggered and managed using real-time BI data, freeing users to add greater impact through the work they do. When exceptions are detected, Panorama NovaView® launches processes automatically and routes workflows based on BI data until transactions are complete.  Users are not required to manage every step of the process.

“We are confident PBI will pave the way for a much-needed shift in focus, and Panorama’s vision is to continue to expand PBI’s capabilities,” said Antebi.  “We are developing functionality that will enable overall BI to adapt to user histories and specific circumstances, offering targeted, situation-specific data to help users perform deeper analysis supported by relevant action. By widening data resources to include unstructured data spread across the company and outside the organization, the power and scope of analytics will be improved immensely.”
